The Mint Museum of Art, North
Carolina’s first art museum, showcases a noted collection of
American fine and decorative arts. The museum makes its home in the
location that once served as the first branch of the U.S. Mint,
coining $5 million in gold from 1836 to the outbreak of the Civil
War.
The Mint Museum of Craft + Design
celebrates artists who fabricate original objects, providing a
glimpse into the ever-evolving field of international studio craft
and design. Permanent collections include works in ceramics, fiber,
furniture, glass, jewelry, metalworks and wood.

The McColl Center for Visual Art, a
progressive, not-for-profit organization, is committed to enhancing
and promoting visual arts in southeastern United States. Housed in a
renovated church, the McColl Center serves to catapult artists to
the vanguard of contemporary art.

Levine Museum of the New South is an
interactive history museum that provides one of the most
comprehensive interpretations of post-Civil War southern society.
The museum focuses on the men, women, and children black and
white, rich and poor who have shaped the south.
The centerpiece of the Levine Museum is the
award-winning exhibition, “Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers: Charlotte
and the Carolina Piedmont in the New South.“ Covering 8,000 square
feet, the exhibit features Charlotte and its 13 surrounding counties
as a case study to illustrate the profound changes in the south
since the Civil War.

From the frontiers of space to the depths of
the sea, Discovery Place is an ever-changing, cutting-edge
science and technology center. Located in Center City Charlotte,
Discovery Place showcases more than 300 exhibits, including a live
rain forest.
Charlotte Observer OMNIMAX Theater at
Discovery Place features a giant screen that surrounds audiences with larger-than-life images and
amazing sound.
Permanent and traveling science exhibitions
such as “A T. Rex Named Sue” and “NASCAR: The IMAX Experience”
attract visitors near and far, to Discovery Place.

The Charlotte Museum of History offers
audience-focused programs and exhibits, based on the people,
buildings, stories and objects spanning the Charlotte region’s
history.
The Hezekiah Alexander house on the grounds of
the Charlotte Museum of History, built in 1774, is the oldest
surviving structure in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County and is
listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Interpretive
docents dressed in historic 18th-Century costume guide visitors
throughout the house daily.

ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center,
can best be described as colorful, whimsical and unexpected.
Encompassing an entire city block, ImaginOn is a large presence in
Center City Charlotte.
