Janne and Rick Farrell
Janne and Rick Farrell

Rick and Janne Farrell
Cincinnati, Ohio

FMCA membership number:
F310176 (we joined in 2002)

Our current motorhome:
A 2007 Forest River Georgetown

Other motorhomes we've owned:
A 2003 Forest River Windsong

Three words that best describe our current motorhome:
Open, bright and roomy

The best thing about our motorhome:
It has enough room for us, our pets and plenty of company.

The Farrells' three cocker spaniels travel in comfort inside the motorhome.
The Farrells' three cocker spaniels travel in comfort inside the motorhome.

We decided to buy a motorhome because:
It was a much more comfortable way to travel, especially with pets. We travel with three cocker spaniels ranging from 4 months to 13½ years old and three cats ranging from 2 years to 11 years.

Occupations:
Rick — retired teacher. Janne — soon-to-be retired administrative assistant.

The best thing about motorhoming:
Being able to take all of our crew with us and the ability to be self-contained with a flip of a switch

Children: We have one adult son.

We travel in the motorhome:
A approximately eight weeks per year but that is soon to increase. When I’m (Janne) not motorhoming, I’m working and we're trying to keep up with the house.

Our all-time favorite motorhome trip:
To the Canadian Rockies and the West Coast in 2002 when Rick retired

One of our fondest motorhoming memories:
Traveling to Bar Harbor, Maine, with friends and eating lobster for nights on end

Other favorite destination:
Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Bar Harbor, and any dog agility trial

Our “dream” motorhome trip: A trip to Alaska

Our perfect day of motorhome travel:
A cool, sunny day and six or so hours on the road

Our worst motorhoming experience:
When Rick was driving through a construction zone and our awning was torn off by a tree limb that was too low over the road. Naturally, this occurred just before we were leaving for a month-long trip.

Our motorhoming pet peeve:
People who merge onto the expressway without looking and expect you to slow down and let them out.

Something motorhoming has taught us about life: To sit and relax

The best addition we’ve made to our motorhome:
Adding sun shades for the side windows

If we could change one thing about our motorhome:
There would be more inside storage. I would put in a central vacuum system.

Something about motorhoming that we know now but didn’t know when we started:
How truly wonderful having a generator would be when we were traveling

When driving the motorhome, the most important thing to remember:
It doesn't stop as fast as a car.

Our favorite thing about FMCA: The [FMC] magizine.

Our hobbies:
Rick — cooking. Janne — training and showing out two youngest cocker spaniels in agility and obedience.

Our favorite way to exercise: a walk around a campground

Favorite movie: RV or Best in Show. Anything that makes me laugh.

Favorite restaurant: Carrabba's Italian Grill

Favorite campground:
Cedarbrook in Lebanon, Ohio
Woods-n-Waters in Columbus, Ind.

Items that we always like to have in our motorhome refrigerator:
Flavored coffee, water and cheese

Our advice to new motorhomers:
Don't empty your closets into the motorhome. If you didn't use it in the house, you probably won't use it in the motorhome.

Behind our motorhome, we tow:
A 2002 Chevy Cavalier on a tow bar
