Ginny and Charlie McPherren

Charlie and Ginny McPherren
Oak City, N.C.

FMCA membership number:
F150922 (we joined FMCA in 2002)

FMCA chapters we belong to: Coastal Tarheels

Our current motorhome: a 1999 Fleetwood Bounder

Other motorhomes we’ve owned:
A gas-powered Bounder and a diesel-powered Bounder

The best thing about our current motorhome: It suits us.

We decided to buy a motorhome because:
Charlie felt it would be easier to handle than a trailer.

Occupations:
Charlie is a retired steel worker. Ginny: retired nurse.

The best thing about motorhoming:
It’s our home away from home.

We travel in the motorhome:
Approximately seven weeks per year. When we’re not motorhoming we’re mowing grass, doing chores around the house and entertaining friends and relatives.

Our all-time favorite motorhome trip:
In 2003, going to Arizona for the winter

One of our fondest motorhoming memories:
Driving through the North Carolina mountains in October

Another favorite destination: the valley in Texas

Our “dream” motorhome trip: Alaska

Our perfect day of motorhome travel:
Get up at 8 a.m., drive 300 miles, stop at a beautiful resort.

Our worst motorhoming experience:
Getting stranded on a one-way street

Our motorhoming pet peeve:
Drivers who can’t back up

Something motorhoming has taught us about life:
It’s great to be free and be able to travel and see our beloved country.

The best addition we’ve made to our motorhome:
The sun shades Charlie installed on the windshield and side windows

If we could change one thing about our motorhome:
We would get an automatic awning.

Something about motorhoming that we know now but didn’t know when we started:
We know it is a great life.

When driving the motorhome the most important thing to remember is:
Keep your eyes on the road at all times.

Our favorite thing about FMCA: The rallies

Advice for other motorhomers:
Take advantage of parking at Wal-Mart.

Hobbies:
Charlie: golf. Ginny: crafts

Favorite way to exercise: walking

Favorite movie: “Elf”

Favorite book: The Bible

Favorite music:
We love all types. We sing and play instruments -- Charlie, keyboard, and Ginny, guitar.

Favorite restaurant: Bon Jangles

If we were awarded a shopping spree at any store, we’d shop at:
Belk, for the variety and good prices

When motorhomers visit our home state they should be sure to see:
The fields in Oak City, and the mountains in North Carolina

An item that is always in our motrohome’s refrigerator:
Ice cream

Behind our motorhome, we tow:
A 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Our favorite activity to do inside the motorhome:
Charlie: watch TV. Ginny: Do crafts.

Our pet that travels with us: Molly, a Chihuahua
