Jack and Jo Evans
Murrieta, Calif.
(55 miles north of San Diego)
FMCA membership number:
F118094 (we joined in 1989)
FMCA chapter we belong to:
California
Our current motorhome:
a 2001 National RV Surf Side
Other motorhomes we have owned:
a Raven
Three words that best describe
our motorhome: Perfect for us
The best thing about our
motorhome:
The layout, especially the kitchen. And it’s comfortable to drive.
We decided to buy a motorhome
because:
We like to travel, attend rallies and go on monthly trips with our
RV group.
Occupations:
We're both retired.
The best thing about
motorhoming:
Visiting other areas, being with groups of people, having our own
space when visiting friends and relatives.
Children, grandchildren:
We have six children between us, and 11 grandchildren.
We travel in the motorhome:
Approximately five months per year. When we’re not motorhoming we’re
working around our home.
Our all-time favorite motorhome
trip:
When we went to Lincoln City, Ore., we fell in love with the area
and joined Chinook Bend RV Resort.
One of our fondest motorhoming
memories:
Going across the southern states to Florida, where we have family.
Other favorite motorhoming
destinations:
We enjoy camping near water, oceans, rivers, etc., and keeping cool
in the summer.
Our “dream” motorhome trip:
Going to the northeast coast, on up to Nova Scotia, etc.
Our perfect day of motorhome
travel:
Driving through beautiful scenery, no traffic, stopping for lunch,
getting to a great campground and meeting our friends there for
dinner.
Our worst motorhoming
experience:
When we hit a BIG speed bump in a residential area, and the towed
car came off, knocking over several mailboxes before passing us on
the passenger side.
Our motorhoming pet peeve:
Driving in traffic, rude drivers
Something motorhoming has
taught us about life:
That no one should be bored.
The best alteration or addition
we’ve made to our motorhome:
Our collection of blue herons, including a stained-glass blue heron
on the door window.
If we could change one thing
about our motorhome, it would be:
More power for driving in hilly areas.
Something about motorhoming
that we know now but didn’t know when we started:
How much fun it is. That two solid objects cannot occupy the same
space at the same time.
When driving the motorhome, the
most important thing to remember is:
Safety. Keep your eyes and attention on the road.
Our favorite thing about FMCA:
How organized they are, and the opportunity to volunteer, and the
friendliness.
Tips we’d like to share with
other motorhomers:
If you leave early, and stop early, you are more apt to find a
vacancy, and have time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Use
walkie-talkies to communicate when parking the motorhome, and also
when traveling if one spouse is in the car and the other is in the
motorhome. They’re also good when you’re lost in Wal-Mart!
Hobbies:
Reading, gardening, watching TV, playing cards,
entertaining
Favorite movie:
Right now, RV with Robin Williams
Favorite singer:
Jo: John Gary
Favorite restaurants:
Hungry Hunter, Mimi’s
If you were awarded a free
shopping spree at any store, we’d choose:
Wal-Mart, for variety and value
Favorite campground:
Chinook Bend RV Resore in Lincoln City, Ore.
When motorhomers visit our
state or hometown, they should be sure to see:
Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, SeaWorld
San Diego, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park, Old Town
Temecula.
Items that are always in our
motorhome refrigerator: milk, peanut
butter
Advice to new motorhomers:
Never leave your awning unattended if it is down. Plan ahead. Join
FMCA.
Behind our motorhome, we tow:
A 1995 Ford Escort with a tow bar.
Our favorite activity to do
inside the motorhome:
Read, watch TV, eat.
Pets we travel with:
None, but we used to have three cats.
