Member Spotlight

Ann and Bob Rowland with granddaughter IsabelleBob and Ann Rowland
Livingston, Texas, address
"Home is where we park it."

FMCA membership number:
F206656. We joined FMCA in 1996.

Our current motorhome is:  a 1999 34-foot Fleetwood Flair

Other motorhomes that we have owned:
A 1998 Travelmaster and a Fleetwood Bounder

We decided to buy a motorhome because:
Health reasons — the bathroom is available at all times

Current or former occupation:
We're both retired. Bob worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 30 years. I (Ann) was a speech pathologist and an administrator in services for people with developmental disabilities.

Children, grandchildren:
We have two children, Dan and Alice, and one granddaughter, Isabelle.

The best thing about motorhoming is:
You always have your own bed and kitchen, etc.

We travel in the motorhome approximately:
Seven months per year

When we're not motorhoming, we're:
Living in a mobile home (five months per year) in Rio Grande Valley, Texas

Our all-time favorite motorhome trip was:
A 44-day trip with Reli Custom RV Tours to New Zealand and Australia using rented motorhomes

Our favorite motorhoming destination is:  Upper Michigan

One of our interesting motorhoming memories is:
Being in Williamsburg, Va., on Sept. 11, 2001 (we had planned to go to the Pentagon that day and changed our minds), and having jet fuel drain on us while at an RV park

Our “dream” motorhome trip would be:  Europe

Our worst motorhoming experience was:
Having to have our motorhome repaired at the factory in Elkhart, Ind., and having to stay three weeks in a motel

If we could change one thing about our motorhome, it would be:
More reliability and availability of products and repairs, particularly chassis related

The best alteration or addition that we’ve made to our motorhome is:
Adding lots of shelves

A motorhoming tip that we’d like to share with other motorhomers is:
If the carbon monoxide sensor starts to go off for no apparent reason, check the converter and the batteries.

Our favorite way to exercise is:  Walking

Favorite book:  Too many

Favorite restaurant:  Anything local

Favorite store:  "Dollar" stores

Favorite campground:  Lowry Grove in St. Anthony Village, Minn.

When motorhomers visit our state or hometown, they should be sure to see:
Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in Austin, Texas. Also, the Admiral Nimitz Museum the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas.

The item that is always in our motorhome's refrigerator while we're traveling is:  Mustard

Our advice to new motorhomers is:  Do your homework.

Behind our motorhome, we tow:  A 1997 Ford Escort using a tow bar

Our favorite activity to do inside the motorhome is:  Read

Other comments:
We love to motorhome travel, but some things are challenging
medical sources, haircuts, newspapers.
