Member Spotlight
Ed and Heather Dina
Leicester, N.C.
FMCA membership
number:
F35300. We joined FMCA in 1979.
Our current
motorhome is: a 34-foot 1992 Tiffin Allegro
Bay diesel pusher
Other motorhomes we have owned:
A 1973 Winnebago Indian (26 foot)
A 1984 Winnebago Chieftain (30-foot)
A 1992 Allegro Bay (34-foot)
We decided to buy a
motorhome because:
We always loved traveling and (real) camping. However, as the kids
got older and we traveled farther, restaurants and motels were
getting more expensive, or not always nice. So, we decided to be
self-contained.
Former occupations:
Ed owned his own printed circuit manufacturing facility. I
(Heather) was a housewife and mother first, and a secretary in
between.
Children,
grandchildren:
We have two sons, one daughter, two granddaughters and one grandson.
The best thing
about motorhoming is:
Seeing this great country
We travel in the motorhome approximately:
Six months per year
When we're not
motorhoming, we're:
Planning our next trip
Our all-time
favorite motorhome trip was:
We can't pick any particular one.
Our favorite
motorhoming destinations include:
Ice Fields Parkway, between Banff and Jasper, Canada
One of our fondest
motorhoming memories is:
Taking my parents up to Nova Scotia with us
Our “dream” motorhome trip would be:
We enjoy them all!
Our worst motorhoming experience was:
Driving down to Texas when everything in the motorhome decided
it was time to break!
The best thing about our current motorhome is:
Ed: the diesel engine. Heather: the queen-size bed.
Something about motorhoming that we know now but
didn’t know when we started is:
It's addictive.
If we could change one thing about our motorhome, it would be:
It's age?
Pets
that travel with us:
An 80-pound Bernese mountain dog
Our favorite thing about FMCA is:
Sharing a common bond
A motorhoming tip that we’d like to share with other
motorhomers is:
Not making reservations is more fun.
Our hobbies are:
Ed: rockhounding, cave exploring, hiking. Heather: gardening,
sewing, hiking.
Our favorite way to exercise is:
Hiking
Favorite movie:
The Ten Commandments
Favorite book: The Bible
Favorite singer, music:
Ray Boltz, "Watch the Lamb"
Favorite restaurant:
McDonald's. Ed does all the cooking at home and on the road.
Favorite store:
Wal-Mart
Favorite campground:
Wal-Marts
all over! Then, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' sites and
national forest campgrounds.
When motorhomers visit our state or hometown, they
should be sure to see:
The mountains
If we could be contestants on any TV game show, we'd choose:
"Wheel of Fortune"
it's fun and makes you think and use your
brain. Or, maybe "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"
The
item that is always in our motorhome's refrigerator while we're
traveling is:
Mountain Dew soft drink
Our
advice to new motorhomers is:
Take your time. If traveling with a partner, both should take turns
driving.
Behind our motorhome, we tow:
A 1995 Nissan 4x4 pickup, four wheels down
If we could meet anyone from history:
Jesus Christ and I will, one day.
Our favorite activity to do inside the motorhome is:
Play tri-ominoes
Other motorhomers can reach us via e-mail at:

Other comments:
We rarely use commercial campgrounds, preferring to stay flexible
and stop where and when we feel like it. We prefer sightseeing in
natural areas, and avoiding "tourist traps" and cities whenever
possible. We never stay in any one place for more than two weeks
mostly less than a week. (Next year we're trying a work-camp
program.)
