Our FMCA membership
number is: F24378. We joined FMCA in
October 1977.
Our current
motorhome is: a 2000 Coachmen Catalina
Other motorhomes
that we have owned:
A 1971 Atlas, a 1979 Georgie Boy Cruise Air and a 1983 Fleetwood
Bounder
We decided to buy a
motorhome because:
Thirty years ago, it was the only way we could vacation with four
daughters and a 100-pound malamute dog. We bought our most recent
coach on a whim, because we wanted a diesel pusher.
Current or former
occupation:
I (Marsha) am a retired teacher. Joe owned
AJAX Wine Specialty Co., Inc. and manufactured springs for all
purposes.
Children,
grandchildren: We have four daughters
Patricia, Susan, Barbara and Karen and seven grandchildren.
The best thing
about motorhoming is:
It's our own home. We meet some fascinating and wonderful people
right at our front door. We travel in our motorhome approximately
eight weeks per year.
When we're not
motorhoming, we're:
Going to the theater and doing volunteer work
Our all-time
favorite motorhome trip was:
Our first. We went cross-country in five
weeks and a whole new world opened up. We took our four kids, ages
5, 6, 11 and 13, and Snowflake, our 2-year-old dog.
Our favorite
motorhoming destinations are:
All over! Canada, Blue Ridge Mountains,
Yellowstone and all the national parks. We've gone north and south
and east and west.
One of our fondest
motorhoming memories is:
Breaking down in Georgia and being
repaired by a great guy on Palm Sunday and staying at his garage
overnight. His name was Roach, so we stayed gratefully at "the Roach
Motel."
Our “dream” motorhome trip would be:
I think we've taken it already many times.
Maybe to Alaska we haven't driven through there yet.
Our worst motorhoming experience was:
Driving a new coach home when everything
broke down or didn't work and we also had our rear dual tires blow.
The best thing about our current motorhome is:
We can fit all of our seven grandkids in
it, so far.
Something about motorhoming that we know now but
didn’t know when we started is:
How much we'd enjoy it! We had planned to
sell our first one when we got home but didn't!
The best alteration or addition that we’ve made to
our motorhome is:
Adding a tow bar for towing four wheels
down. We never towed until now, and we find it great.
Our favorite thing about FMCA is:
We enjoy Family Motor Coaching magazine.
If we could appear as contestants on any TV game
show, we would choose:
"The $64,000 Question." It has better odds
than winning the lottery.
A motorhoming tip that we’d like to share with other
motorhomers is:
Times have changed. Be careful and wary
when someone knocks on your door.
Our hobbies are:
I knit, sew, read, paint and crochet. Joe: model
trains and woodworking. We both enjoy theater and travel.
Our favorite way to exercise is:
walking
Favorite book: Leo
Rosten's Giant Book of Laughter by Leo Calvin Rosten
Favorite singer: Frank
Sinatra
Favorite restaurant: Butera's
in Woodbury, Long Island, N.Y.
Favorite store: Lord &
Taylor
Favorite campground:
Cherry Hill Park in College Park, Md.
When motorhomers visit our state or hometown, they
should be sure to see:
Old Bethpage Village Restoration on Long
Island. Niagara Falls. Coney Island in Brooklyn. Ausable Chasm
beaches. 1000 Islands. Belmont Park Race Track in Elmont. Many
museums and theaters.
Our advice to new motorhomers is:
Enjoy driving.
Behind our motorhome we tow:
A 2000 Honda Civic, using a tow bar
If we could invite one person from history to dinner,
we'd choose:
King Solomon we could use his wisdom!
Our favorite activity to do inside the motorhome is:
Driving, reading, sleeping and eating
Other comments:
Most people who have motorhomes are friendly and helpful. We've met
people from all over the world.
