Member Spotlight

Steve and Linda BusickSteve & Linda Busick
Otisville, Michigan

FMCA Membership Number:  F45180

I/we joined FMCA in:  1982

FMCA chapter memberships:  Achievers International, Superior People

Current motorhome:  1990 Champion Ultrastar

Motorhomes owned:  a 1972 Superior from 1977 to 1990 and the Ultrastar from 1990 to the present

We decided to buy a motorhome because…
We wanted to take our parents on extended trips with a minimum of hassles.

Current or former occupations:  Technical writer, retired teachers

The best thing about motorhoming is…
The sense of freedom, security and convenience it provides

When we’re not motorhoming, we’re…
Reading, writing or bicycling

Our all-time favorite motorhome trip was…
The FMCA summer convention in Minot, North Dakota, in August of 1995, hailstorm and all

Our favorite motorhoming destination: Palms Book State Park in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

One of our fondest motorhoming memories is…
Sitting in a roadside rest area overlooking Lake Huron

Our “dream” motorhome trip would be…
Traveling on nothing but four-lane divided, non-expressway roads to wherever and back

One of our not-so-fond motorhoming experiences was…
Driving on a very long, very narrow bridge on the way to Des Moines, Iowa, for FMCA’s summer convention in 1987.

The best thing about our motorhome is…
The solid oak cabinetry

Something about motorhoming that I know now but that I didn’t know when I started is…
For those who live in the North and do not use their coach in the winter, it is much easier, more convenient and much more comfortable to winterize the water system before the weather gets cold. If needed, the coach is still usable without running water. Remember though, that if you do pour anything down the drains or even flush the toilet with a container of water, the holding tanks will need to be emptied and winterized again. But that is a small, simple job compared to winterizing the whole system in cold weather.

If we could change one thing about my motorhome, it would be…
Bigger on the inside and smaller on the outside

The best alteration/addition we’ve made to our motorhome is…
Hydraulic leveling jacks and a self-coiling fresh water hose

Our favorite thing(s) about FMCA is...
The family atmosphere and spirit of helping one another

A motorhoming tip we’d like to share with other motorhomers is…
The safe operation of our coaches is our responsibility.

Our hobbies/interests are…
Motorhoming, bicycling, reading, writing

Favorite movie: Amadeus

Favorite book: whichever one we're reading today

Favorite song/singer: The Secret O' Life by James Taylor

Favorite restaurant: Beijing Express in Birch Run, Michigan

Favorite store: Target

Favorite comic strip: Frazz by Jef Mallett

When motorhomers visit our state or hometown, they should be sure to see…
The Mackinac Bridge

Our advice to new motorhomers is…
Buy a coach like you buy clothes for your growing children: a little larger than is needed today, but not too large.
