Motorhomes: an increasingly popular
travel option
CINCINNATI, Ohio — The motorhome is
considered by many to be a vehicle of maximum travel options. It is
enjoyed by vacationing families; utilized by traveling
businesspeople; used by professional entertainers on concert tours;
and employed to transport anglers and other sports enthusiasts.
Motorhomes are used by businesses to
display products or to host conferences; they serve as a mobile
dressing room for TV and film stars; and they can function as remote
mobile studios for television news/sports operations and for radio
shows.
Almost any travel need or desire can be
satisfied by a motorhome through the various innovations now being
offered on the latest production-line and custom conversion models.
In addition to being used for travel and outdoor recreation,
motorhomes are being employed throughout the year for a variety of
other purposes, such as hosting tailgate parties at sporting events
and pursuing special interests such as horse, dog, and antique
shows, and other hobbies.
Motorhomes are an increasingly popular
travel option. According to a recent consumer study conducted by the
University of Michigan, U.S. ownership of RVs has reached record
levels. Nearly one in 12 U.S. vehicle-owning households now owns an
RV.
In addition, the potential for future
growth in RV ownership in general in the United States is
considerable. Sales of recreation vehicles are expected to continue
to increase as baby boomers move into their prime RV-buying years.
According to the Recreation Vehicle
Industry Association (RVIA), factory-to-dealer deliveries of RVs
reached a 27-year high in 2005. Strong RV sales are expected to
continue during the decade ahead.
Industry officials believe that the
advantages of RV travel in today's climate are helping to drive
market growth. Families want to spend quality time together and
prefer the greater freedom, flexibility, control and comfort RVs
provide. Younger consumers and empty-nesters are driving up sales,
realizing the advantages of RVing over other forms of travel.
