Reaching out: FMCA's charitable
tradition
CINCINNATI, Ohio — FMCA offers a full
line of member benefits to enhance the motorhoming lifestyle. But
perhaps the greatest benefits are the opportunities that FMCA and
motorhoming create to help others.
Ongoing support
Throughout the year, many FMCA members contribute to the
association’s Round Up campaign. Members are invited to "round up"
their membership dues and/or make a donation to one or more of these
organizations.
- Habitat for Humanity
International
- The National Center on Family
Homelessness
- ProLiteracy Worldwide
- Good Will-Hinckley Homes for
Boys and Girls
A form appears monthly in each issue of
Family Motor Coaching magazine, making it easy to contribute
to these programs, in FMCA’s name. To find the form, look for
“Round-Up Contributors” on the contents page in the magazine, or
“FMCA Round Up Program” in the Advertising Index.
Chapters’ outpouring
FMCA has more than 500 chapters, or subgroups, throughout North
America. In innumerable ways, many of them organize and participate
in special charitable projects year-round. They’ve coordinated
fund-raisers for burns victims, dressed as clowns to cheer hospital
patients, held auctions to benefit the American Diabetes
Association, collected beverage can tabs so kids with special needs
can attend camp.
In addition, several hundred FMCA
members have sponsored a brick or a granite stone to help fund
construction of a new middle school at the Good Will-Hinckley Homes
for Boys and Girls (site of FMCA’s founding in 1963) in Hinckley,
Maine.
Convention legacy
FMCA members are fondly remembered for their charitable efforts in
towns where its international conventions are held. Blood drives,
quilt donations, eyeglass collection, and
donations to local charities are some of the ways convention
attendees have helped others before, during or after the confab.
FMCA members place great value on family
and have chosen to help families in need whenever possible. It’s no
accident that “family” is the first word in Family Motor Coach
Association.
