Twenty-five years have passed since the formation of the B.C. Bus Nuts chapter, and we continue to enjoy our rallies, friendships, and converted coaches. The chapter was chartered in August 1983 as the Western Canadian Bus Nuts. We changed our name to B.C. Bus Nuts in October 1983.
Despite the "bus" in our name, you don't have to own a bus conversion to join. Only about one-third of our members have them. Our members are from the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta, and the states of Oregon and Washington. We welcome all FMCA members in our area to join us. Currently, we have approximately 106 member families.
Over the years, rally locations have included everywhere from Prince George, B.C., in the north, to Cheney, Washington, in the south; Sechelt, B.C., on the sunshine (west) coast, and Edmonton, Alberta in the east. The rallies are always very different, but one common thread is present at every one — we always have fun, eat too much, and no doubt learn something new about our coaches or travel locations and experiences.
We mostly hold our rallies on regular weekends or long weekends, but many members choose to come as early birds on the Thursday before the rally. We endeavor to hold at least two rallies a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Sometimes we have an additional rally in the summer. We have visited many interesting area attractions at our rallies, such as the Historic O'Keefe Ranch in Vernon, B.C.; the Greenwood Courthouse in Greenwood, B.C.; the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Detachment tour in Sechelt, B.C.; and the Langley Good Times Cruise-In in Langley, B.C., to name just a few.
We began celebrating our 25-year anniversary at our spring 2008 rally in Kelowna, B.C., at the property of Omar and Madeleine Gauvin. Among other activities, we took part in the famous “Bus Races” game, once again hosted by Ron and Diane Walters, who introduced the game to our chapter in August 1985. This game involves wooden buses with different nicknames; dice; and a race to the finish line. All members at this rally were given a special B.C. Bus Nuts 25th anniversary pin to commemorate the occasion. Celebrations continued at the fall rally, held in September at the property of Ron and Linda Young outside of Spokane, Washington.
Our chapter offers great opportunities for members to explore beautiful areas of British Columbia, Alberta, Washington, and Oregon. We invite you to join us. We send out a newsletter after each rally that describes the event's highlights. A Web site accessible only to chapter members provides additional information.
